During the latest episode of his podcast, Class of ’88, DJ Jazzy Jeff recounted a story involving Will Smith attempting to remove his cast using butter knives. The incident occurred while they were in a London hotel room working on a new album, and Jeff was in a full-length cast due to a car accident.
Smith explained that the cast had become uncomfortable for Jeff, and he came up with the idea to remove it using butter knives.
From there, Smith humorously mentioned that his typical response to ideas is generally affirmative. Jeff then remembered: “They present 24 butter knives and he proceeds to saw, managing to partially split the cast,” before Smith interrupted: “So, I had been sawing the cast from the top, which, I suppose, is not medically advised, resulting in the cast getting stuck around the middle of Jeff’s leg.”

Smith then suggested Jeff get in the tub to “soften” up the cast, which only made matters worse. “It started to shrink, so now it’s choking my leg. And it really didn’t help that through the entire process, he’s laughing,” Jeff explained. “And I’m freaking out. I’m wet, in my underwear, with a cast up to my ankle.” Smith went on: “So JL came in, and JL’s lookin’, it’s like 30 butter knives all over the floor, and you’re in the tub with your cast on…
